Biography

The original lineup - keyboardist Joe Dell, guitarist Matt Schwarz, drummer Frank Melick, and bassist Dan Castiel - released a self-titled EP in 2000 and a full-length CD ("Goin' Over") in 2004. The rhythm section had left by the time "Goin' Over" was released and the band spent several years performing as an acoustic duet, focusing on piano/flute/vocal and acoustic guitar/organ/vocal artistic songs. They then recruited versatile drummer Gary Rinaldi and a host of session musicians for their next project "Legend", which would include a mix of acoustic and heavy rock material written over the course of the band's career. This was preceded by a release of metal-leaning alternate versions entitled "The Lazarus Project" in 2008, which also contained six instrumentals recorded by Joe Dell's previous project Spectrum Green. 2010 saw the final release of "Legend" - a 2-hr double-disc set engineered by Bob Both and featuring a cover by famed heavy metal and fantasy artist Ken Kelly. The album received some positive response from the progressive rock community, with the Dutch Progressive Rock Pages claiming, "it's a record every truly progressive rock fan should have in their collection" [1] and Progression Magazine stating, "Legend has plenty of fun, rollicking moments to feed the proggy beast within." [2]

Their infamous live show consisted of many theatrical elements such as Frank Melick's flaming drumstick solo, Joe Dell's smoking keyboards, and their Headless Horseman mascot. They have been banned from several venues due the constant stage antics of Joe Dell consisting of smashing keyboards and throwing a lit Joint into the crowd. There was a scare even put into the staff at New York City's legendary The Limelight.

On March 27th 2011, Joe Dell almost lost his life in a fatal car wreck. He had his C-2 neck bone broken. He is on the mend and the band is planning to return to the studio with Bob Both to record their fifth album.

Sleepy Hollow have a promo Glow-in-the-dark vinyl 45 of Aristotle's Lantern with a b-side featuring Spectrum Green track Corporate Pig. They have joined the ranks of Metallica as being one of a handful of bands to have their music on Glow in the Dark vinyl.
